At the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism, Godparents are present to represent the expanded spiritual family of the child and help the parents so that children will profess the faith of their family and live up to it. A Godparent is a person who assumes, along with the parents, the responsibility for the child's faith. The purpose is to ensure that the rich and beautiful faith of the Catholic Church is passed on to the child in the most loving and authentic way possible.
